現代における美のあり方を問い、表現するZINEプロジェクトとして2020年に東京で設立された〈BURNING MAGAZINE〉。特別版 『Rough Magic』の日本における発売に関しまして、株式会社kokodearが運営するCreative Studio koko（本社：東京都渋谷区）が委託販売いたします。

コンセプト
〈Burning Magazine〉は、写真家・大田詩織の構想のもと、2020年から東京を拠点に発行されているフェミニズム・アートの先駆的雑誌である。創刊以来、〈Burning Magazine〉は、日本および世界各国から新進気鋭の女性アーティストを特集してきた。特集『Rough Magic』は、詩織が厳選した世界中の28人の写真家のレンズを通して、優しくて思いやりのあるものから実存的なものまで、抽象的な概念の数々を探求する。

一般的に「女性の視線」とレッテルを貼られるものを超えて、『Rough Magic』は90年代の日本のガーリーフォト・ムーブメントからインスピレーションを受け、古いアイデアに現代的なレンズを当てている。〈Burning Magazine〉のアートブック『Rough Magic』は、女性写真家であることの境界線を押し広げ、そのアイデンティティに縛られた先入観を打ち砕く。このアートブックでは、個人的なものから惑星的なものまで、身体と空間というテーマを大胆に探求し、真実の愛、テクノロジーと人の不思議な親密さ、そしてセクシュアリティの複雑さといった領域に踏み込んでいる。

Burning Magazine has been a pioneering feminist art magazine based in Tokyo since 2020,
under the vision of photographer Shiori Ota. Since its inception Burning Magazine has
featured emerging and established women-identifying artists from Japan and around the
world. The special edition “Rough Magic” explores an array of abstract concepts from tender to existential – through the lens of 28 photographers from around the world, handpicked by Shiori.

Beyond what is typically labeled as the “female gaze”, “Rough Magic” takes inspiration from
the Girly Photo movement of Japan in the 90s and places a modern lens on old ideas.
Burning Magazine’s “Rough Magic” art book pushes the boundaries of what it means to be a female photographer and shatters any preconceived limits tied to that identity. The edition
boldly explores themes of the body and space-both personal and planetary-while diving into
the realms of true love, the strange intimacy between human and technology, and the
complexities of sexuality.

現代における美のあり方を問い、表現するZINEプロジェクトとして2020年に東京で設立された。創刊号は高橋空と共同制作。2022年に第2号を制作し、「女性のまなざし」とは何かを問いかける。第3号は2024年に制作され、同時期にオンラインサイトを立ち上げた。このプラットフォームは、学び、共有、個々の才能とつながるため、という前向きな理由から存在している。

Founded in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, as zine project questioning and expressing how the beauty really means in this modern days. The first issue has co-produced with Sora Takahashi.
The second issue has produced in 2022 to question what’s
“female gaze” means. The third issue has produced in 2024 and launched online website. This platform exists for positive reason, to learn, to share, to be connected with individual
talent.

写真、アート、ストーリーテリングを通じて女性の視点を称賛するインディペンデントマガジン「Burning Magazine」のファウンダー。日本で生まれ育つなかで、女性に押し付けられる狭い美の基準のプレッシャーを強く意識してきた。

作品を通して、多様な美しさと個性を受け入れることで、これらの社会的規範に挑戦。包摂的でボディポジティブを取り入れたビジョンを通じて、人々が見た目や振る舞い、生き方に対する期待から解放され、本当の自分を受け入れることを目指す。

Shiori Ota is the founder of Burning Magazine, an independent publication celebrating female perspectives through photography, art, and storytelling. Born and raised in Japan, Shiori grew up deeply aware of the pressures of narrow beauty standards imposed on young women. As a fashion photographer, her work challenges these societal norms by embracing the diverse beauty and individuality.

Through her inclusive, body-positive imagery, Shiori’s focus is to inspire people to embrace who they truly are, free from expectations of how they should look, act, or exist. Her work is a call to authenticity and self-love-empowering others to celebrate their unique identities in their own skin.
